Team with district championship plaqueFor the Utica High School Girls Varsity Basketball team, it’s been a full court press all season – in both the gym and the classroom.

This year’s 11-member team has been honored for having the second highest collective grade point average in Michigan – 3.99.

"These kids compete in all they do,” said coach Thomas McDonald. “This recognition just further proves what we already knew!"

The team is typically an academic powerhouse, earning top ten GPA rankings three times in the past ten years. This is the first year they have placed within the top two spots.

In addition to their academic success, the team earned the district championship this year. They finished their regular season with a 6-11 record.

“They always strive to be and give their best, both on the court and off,” McDonald said.
