From The Principal

 Lietz PictureDear Chieftain Families,

May has arrived! As our last full month of school commences, we look ahead to warmer weather, wonderful celebration and a whirlwind of excitement as we get through the last month and a half of school!  The Quarter 4 (Q4) progress report period is nearing quickly, the window closing on Friday, May 14.  The second half of this quarter moves even faster!  Senior exams are on May 30th and 31st and underclassmen exams just a few weeks later.  We want to make sure our Chieftains are finishing strong and making sure their positioned to end the year with the best grades possible!

We’ve wrapped up standardized testing and begin our AP testing window on Monday, May 6.  We have an incredibly large testing group, increasing for our third consecutive year.  We have 407 (+17%) students taking 705 (+19%) exams this year.  They will be taking exams in the sciences, arts, languages, mathematics and social studies.  About a quarter of our students testing will be taking two or more exams this cycle, and many more have taken exams previous to this year. This demonstrates the confidence these students have in the instruction at Utica High School and a commitment to maximizing their opportunities to leverage Utica High to get ahead in post-secondary study!  I could not be more proud!
